Entertainer Captures Children's Attention
The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) Matt Woo - May 2005
The wide-eyed kids sat on the edge of the multi-colored carpet, extending their arms and pretending to drive imaginary cars.
"What sound does a car horn make?," the man asked the group.
"Beep," the kids said aloud.
Though the kids won't be driving any cars for years to come, parents and their young children gathered at the Collierville Burch Library for an afternoon of singing and reading by children's entertainer Richard Peeples.
For more than 30 minutes, Peeples entertained the crowd of parents and young children by reading them stories and playing songs from his CD, Might As Well Sing. His album was recently selected as the top musical parenting pick by Parenting Magazine.
"One thing that I try to do is make music that is pleasing to adult ears," Peeples said of his music.
Peeples, of Orlando, is performing his songs at area schools. With the target group being young children, Peeples' wacky and fun-filled lyrics and songs are an educational experience for everyone.
"I enjoy just making the kids laugh and sing," he said. "It's just a big kick for me. I try to make songs that are funny to them."
